Unfortunately, they don't have the original bass drivers in them. I have already contacted the seller, but I should think someone already snagged these.

Or you can buy these. The seller started at $2K a month ago and just lowered his price to $1K. Nice looking but isn't that still a bit pricey?

Depends on your location and wants, i paid 700 for my 9846's needing refurbishment. Essentially the same speaker in a utility/monitor enclosure. I'm aware of another altec lover who paid more than i did for even less in the way of condition, we're both still happy.

Barcelona is one of the nicest cabinets Altec built second only to the 820 corner horn IMO. I think 1K for correct and working Barcelona pair is a pretty good deal, if they were on my side of the planet i'd be giving them strong consideration even tho the woofers should probably be updated to the newer style foam surrounds.

I paid $10 for a set of HPM-40's off the Boston CL last year.

If he got deluged with email on the Altec's he is likely rethinking his selling price.

Yup, I'd be after those for sure. Shame about the woofers, but maybe that old original beat up set of woofers is lying around there somewhere.

I e-mailed him last night and talked to him on the phone. I was all lined up for a Saturday pick up until he called me tonight (Thursday) and said that somebody offered him $125 so he took it.

Stated again for the 40,000th time -

If you see something on CL that you really want and the seller agrees to sell it to you, go RIGHT NOW and get it.

Don't think you can go get it at your leisure as someone else is calling the seller right after you hang-up and telling them they have cash in hand and will be right there.

Bottom line, if you can't go get it NOW don't even make contact.
