Altec Corona 893B Speakers

Found an ad on CL for Altec corona model 893B speakers. I was going to look at them but wanted some idea as to their worth. The guy wants $125 for them and supposedly they are in very good condition. I did some background on them yesterday and found they have wood cabinets and no foam to replace. My question is are they worth $125. No affilation.

You know,.. I'm not sure but I dont think they are considered "highly collectible" or "highly valuable" right now.... Meaning.. you're not getting a steal at $125.. (like you could turn around and sell them for much more)

Now... I have a pair of similarly less "highly sought" Altecs that I "LOVE" in the 887A. I got them for I think $30-40... A little smaller than the ones you're looking at.. (if those shown above are in fact they)

But I will say that I like my little Altecs enough that if I saw the ones you're looking at for around $100 or less... In pristine shape,... I wouldnt be able to walk away without at VERY LEAST listening to them...

As for an actual Blue Book Value,... They arent listed on AGs BlueBook (but neither are mine)


My gut would say that if they are in great condition and original .... thats a pretty fair prices.. not a steal, not a gouging.. If you like em.. GO. if you are thinking purely of flipping them,.. then I'd wait..

But I would be interested to hear what you think and decide if you listen to them... As these would be in the group of speakers I keep an eye out for if a bargain.

No, I plan on listening to them first. I am not trying to turn them around. I had read a few things about them and heard that they were not too bad.
