Altec Lansing Multimedia Speaker System

I picked up some Altec Lansing speakers (two smalls and a subwoofer) at a garage sale a few years ago for practically nothing. They were part of a larger lot of audio stuff, odds and ends, almost threw them out. Now they are hooked up to my office computer and they can pretty much make the walls shake. Thoughts? I believe they are roughly circa 1988, Model ACS-44, see picture below:AltecLansing.jpg

Computer speakers from the Sparkomatic era perhaps ...
Long after the original Altec Lansing company went bankrupt and sold off their name.

Fun stuff tho - think we have a pair of something like them at home ...
 
I had a set of these: alspkr.jpg Bought them on closeout from wal-mart for $20. At the time I worked in a qc lab and listened to these with a dell mp3 player and they sounded quite impressive for what they look like. Bass was surprisingly strong very smooth highs and can get pretty loud. Sadly they were stolen by rent-a-cop security guards during Christmas shutdown. I watch for them on ebay and they still bring $30 plus
 
The original Altec actually made speakers for consumer use right before they were purchased by Sparkomatic: The models 95, 75 and 65. (I think. 95 is the one I'm sure of.) The 95 is 3-way front, using 8" woofers. The other two are smaller, 2-way and could be used for rear or side. No sub that I'm aware of.

I'm using a pair of 95 in my living room. They're pretty good for budget speakers, though a bit bright. I tried to replace them with modern speakers, Paradigm Studio 20, and decided the Altecs sounded a lot better.

Thanks--these were computer speakers, so I guess I described the bass box as a sub, maybe that's not quite accurate. Finally sold them to a guy in Texas for $25, he got a great deal.
