Altec Lansing pc speaker ?

Any information about this or brand history?
$5 at habitat few weeks ago . Struggling to find a power cable for it , using a household one that was lying around .

Was some static when nothing was playing , but that’s normal of non hd audio. Or low end stuff

Yeah I didn’t know they looked good for pc speakers . I prob shouldn’t had bought anything that day . They may make good pc speakers .$5 sure beats paying what today’s Pc 2.1 systems cost .:bigok::yikes:
Until I can afford something good I shouldn’t buy anything. I’m simply collection worthless junk . Should had bought the rca mini shelf’s system instead.

I have a pair of those speakers for the computer at work. They're ok as computer speakers, but not hi-fi.
 
Dunno about those particular ones but we hat two pairs of these that we bought about 15 years ago for $50 and loved them. They almost qualifies as small home speakers and served as voices for out CD, Iphone, and MP3 players to fill the room with quote p]easing sound.

FWIW, I find Cyber Acoustics turns out a pretty good product at a decent price in today;s market.
 
Its basically JUNK for home computers, from some company that BOUGHT the Altec Lansing name after the original ALTEC Lansing went Bankrupt.
That has no real connection to any of their history otherwise. NOT LEGACY GEAR.

STOP BUYING JUNK under $100.
Unless you just like blowing money on old plastic trash.

That said, some of the earliest AL computer speaker systems were tops among their peers. I used an ACS-400 system on my desktop when they first came out. The subwoofer cabinet is a real slot ported wood cabinet, and in it's day the system was pretty substantial, much better than the Cambridge systems that were about the only real competitor at the time. I would like to hear the top of the line ACS-495/500 system, it boasted 40wpc to the dual VC 6 inch subwoofer, and 12wpc to the satellites.

On the flip side, I wish you lived around here. I know both myself and another AK'er in this area would hook you up with some decent stuff that could tide you over. A couple of us were just discussing this very topic yesterday at a small listening session.

Meanwhile, we're hoping some AK'ers in your vicinity might get inspired to help you out, and steer you in the right direction.

.....either that, or give you a good slap every time you haul junk back to your house.

OP needs to be invited/attend a few such listening sessions and be exposed to some quality kit in use, there is much for him to glean from understanding others' audio journeys. I envy his level of enthusiasm, it just needs a little grooming and discipline.

Yeah I’f financial difficulties , are forcing me to buy junk better off I save my money for something non-audio. And I had enough old wood/ plastic junk before I bought anything...it all sounds the sameness not hifi.
 
As they say in Russia feed them to the goats . The sub is wooden so I thought they were good quality pc speakers . I
Guess all pc speakers are junk , feedthem to thefoads ?
 
For computer speakers, they were quite useful. I had a pair and was astonished at the quality of the sound. 12volt supplies show up at thrift stores all the time, just be sure you get the right sized plug with the correct polarity, which on those is center positive IIRC. I now have my computer in the living room hooked up to my SX-1250/ SX-1280 system. Absolutely no comparison.

YEAH I accidentally grabbed one of wrong voltage, how can you tell polarity??

THANKS FOR THE info, I dont expect high end sound from these, use for rooms with no space. . just as use for Pc speakers or mobile devices. If i am listening to cd, youtube or pandora .. etc ll probably use one of my receivers>""!!!
 
I met the company that owns the altec name they also own around 25 cheap household brands from bed sheets to sharper image,I was there regarding a licensing deal for a clothing brand call le Tigre that they wanted to license in Japan
This was about 20 years ago,I asked who had the altec name and he said,oh some South Korean company called Samsung ,they were unknown in the us market then and used the altec name to get into big box stores as well as a a supplier to dell and gateway.
I did get a dell once with a altec system it was ok for low quality computer audio ,I might still have it boxed in the attic ,I only kept it because it was altec.

Samsung is a tech giant now and a monstrosity. Wow
They still seem higher build quality then many of today’s pc speakers , except klipsch . And higher end brands obv better .
