Altec Lansing Seville Opinions

Hi, I have a chance to buy a pair of Altec Lansing Sevilles with very nice cabinets somewhat locally. The price is $200 a pair, which seems fair to me. I was wondering how these sound in general? How would they compare audibly to JBL 4311's that I currently am using? I have a feeling the JBL's may sound "better" to most, but are the Altecs worth the 2 hour drive? I'm relatively new to the hobby and have very little experience with Altec Lansing speakers. I would be using either a Marantz 2270, a McIntosh 1900, or a NAD 7080 to power them. Best option? Thanks.

Sevilles are lean and delicate. Not for rock. Good for tight jazz, that kind of thing.

The tweeters are almost irreplaceable.

I had a set and they worked very well for close-in listening and were sensitive to front-end gear. I never tried them with tubes, that would have been a good thing.

That's what I thought. They're repairable, but the work isn't cheap. There's a guy in LA (I think) who used to work for Altec and now does diaphragm replacements on them. I think it runs about $170/per.
 
I have a dead 3000 sitting around right now. As I really don't have a use for it at the moment, I'm in no hurry to fix it. They sound sweet when working, though.
 
Seville's Power Handling Capabilities

It seems the Altec Sevilles are a good buy, but I understand they aren't "rock" speakers? I like listening to my music very loud at times, and listen primarily to classic rock, new rock and alternative. Are these a bad choice for this at higher input levels, or do these sound O.K. at high volumes? Though judging by what you say about the cost of tweeter replacement, I may just keep on using my favorite JBL 4311's.
 
Yeah, coming from 4311's, the Sevilles will sound reserved, dry, bright.

A lot prettier and worth more, but not a rocker.
