Altec Model 14/9842-8D Woofer Question

I recently picked up a pair of 9842-8Ds: I love the look and I'm looking forward to trying my hand at restoring the cabinets & veneer. But the unfortunate part is that a previous owner removed the original woofers and inserted some absolute newish garbage ones. The speakers work, but I'd like to get these woofers back to something more faithful to the originals.

I'd like to locate the proper 12" bass drivers, but I do see online that they're a bit tough to find. So I have some options, and I hope I can get AK's advice on it:

Are there any non-AL woofers that you'd recommend instead—even new ones—that would perform reasonably like the originals?

Or, I had an offer of a pair of JBL 2213s locally at a good price. Would these work?

I don't mind making these monitors a bit of a Frankenstein, but I plan on putting them in regular rotation so they have to sound faithful to how they were originally manufactured.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Then, you'll need the correct 34633 woofers.

Same woofer was also used in models 8 and 1012.

They're out there, be diligent with the hunt and you will be successful.

What are you trying to achieve? Going to be for studio use as the original design intended or want to use it for home stereo use?
In all cases you can work on the cabinets while you hunt for the correct drivers.

I'll keep looking for a pair of 34633s, but it would be nice to have something in the interm in them. Yes, these would be for home use on a Fisher 500c. The one thing I don't want to do throw any 12" woofer in these that shows up on Craig's List, etc. In the absence of 34633s in the near-term, putting something that's similar in them to enjoy is my goal.

Drugolf, you are spot-on: the cabinet work is daunting... I've not done this much veneering on a single, large project, but doing this type of work has been a goal of mine for a long time.

The 33785(model 15, 9, Santana II) woofer is the only other woofer that will be a direct fit.

Parametrically, it's close but not the same. It has a bigger, more robust motor making it a tad more sensitive with a bit better heat dissipation at the cost of a bit of LF extension.
