Bowtie: that's what I'll do, I think -- always need to listen for a while before deciding whether or not it's to my liking. Is there anything special about the foams, or are they just regular run-of-the-mill surrounds? I'd like these to be proper, of course.

Zilch: are you serious? The woofers have no model number? Seems odd. I'd like to try some drifferent HF drivers, and figured that the 14s might be candidates -- loathe to try it on my older Altecs, though they would probably benefit the most from any mods.

Still pretty happy -- going to see if I can grab some foam tomorrow and get these done. :thmbsp:

There surely is one, but all I've been able to find thus far is a replacement cone number....

They're wider than the more common surrounds for 12's. There's a fella that usually has them specifically for the 14 woofer on that auction site, a PM to Morden2004 could possibly verify the correct seller as i'm pretty sure that's where he got his.

You can probably also source the correct surrounds from Great Plains Audio.

FWIW, i think the 14's will surprise you, they have a far more complex crossover than the older Altecs and i'll really be surprised if you want to change anything once you have them working correctly.

Yes, I have tried that fine ale but have never heard a pair of 14's.
Is all OK or have you run into any other issues other than the re-foam?
