That's a sweet looking pair. If they work as good as they look, I can easily see about $1400... they may even go for more as nice as they are.

I sent the seller an email. We are about 800 miles apart. I was thinking about offer him a treade for my Khorns - we meet half way. Not sure what he will say tho.
Thanks for the input.
Any other opinions.

That's a hard choice there. I have both. However, I've not had the opportunity to A/B them with the same front end in the same room. They're definitely different, the most obvious thing being the 2-way vs 3-way thing.

If I had to say something specific, I think the K-horns get "shoutier" at more than moderate volumes, but the K-horns have bass that needs to be felt to be believed, and possibly more detail at lower volumes.

I think you'd be happy with either, but James is right, there won't be much difference in the size given the corner hugging capabilities of the K-horns.

Personally I'm thinking eventually of creating a combo type franken speaker set up using a K-horn bass bin, an Altec large format horn/driver for mids, and an unknown horn/driver for the highs. Not an original idea, and Coyote will prolly show up and holler "Jubilee's!!!!" but it's the current thought process....:scratch2:

The problem isn't the footprint size, but rather the room geometry and the NEED for the corners of the klipsch. In my room the bass is gone.
I think these altecs would greatly resolve that problem.

Thanks for the input.

Keep in mid you get a sizeable bass augmented bump from speakers being in the corners - not just KHorns. Whatever speakers you put back there, you will have some suckout from that fish tank. I personally would recommend something on par with the Fortes, and throw a subwoofer on one of the long walls.

I do have some forte's sitting right in front of the KHorns now. They sound pretty good. I found a set of "blemish free" cornwalls locally. I might give them a look see and a listen. I think they might do really well in this spot.

Had those too. I think you'll like the 19's better....

However, I also think you'll like the CW's better than the Fortes. I paid $525 for mine.
$700 is starting to hit the upper limit of good value for the $$$$.
They'd better be about perfect, and prolly CW I's to boot

YMMV....

Well, it looks like I am going to soon be a proud new owner of some altec 19's!:banana::banana:
The seller and I have agreed to meet half way on Sunday.
Now to start finding all the updates and improvements for these monsters.

Damn dude, first the k-horns and now these, way to go! I'm certainly glad that a pair of lowly Corals got us together so that I can at least see and hear these classics. I'm going to be very interested in hearing the 6V6 with the 19's when we get done with the amp.

BTW, where's half-way to Longview,TX?

We are going to meet in Wichita. I am supposed to meet him at aabout 11:30 tomorrow am.

Yeah, I can't wait to hook that amp up to these either. BTW - I just got a xover rebuild kit and a set of titanium diaphragms from bob crites, as well as a new set of mif diapohragms from klips. These ae going into my forte's. THat little amp already lights them up, I can't wait to see what happens with these improvements.
As to the Corals, probably some of the best money I have ever spent.:D

When you get the 19s home, you'll find a shocking situation....there really is no need for mods on these Altecs. You could refresh the caps, but these are one set of speakers that got everything right on the first time around. :thmbsp::yes:

Congrats! If it was me, I wouldn't be getting much sleep tonight in anticipation...
