Altec Model 8 Series II

How much do you guys think a pair of Altec Model 8 Series II in decent shape are worth?

There are a pair for sale locally here, and I am thinking I might pick them up to serve as garage/"party" speakers. With 94db per watt per meter sensitivity, I imagine they can rock. They might be good with tubes as well if I ever decide to experiment with that.

Has anyone here heard a pair?

I haven't heard the Altecs, however I can say if you ever stumble over a pair of Electrovoice PI15-3's.....run and grab them! I'm currently reorganizing my garage and the PI15-3's are awesome garage speakers. :yes: they sound great with good recording and will play loud enough to make your ears bleed.

I don't see how you could go wrong with Altec. I have 2 pair of the little brothers, model threes, and they are a great 2 way.

Well................. they're lowball on any pricing scale in touch with reality, that doesn't mean they don't sound good, indeed they're not bad at all. They'd be ideal for your intended purpose, but i'd caution you not to let them be a blanket representation of Altecs in general as they're a departure from the "typical" altec.

Good working condition i'd say anything from 50-100 for the pair is fair, over 100 is pushing it.

I was thinking along the same lines, bowtie. I know these won't be anything like the big Altecs (which I lust for), but they are still high efficiency floor standers (which have their purpose ).
