Altec N-3000F XO rebuild.

Nice old thread resurrected... Can this be used with 8ohm and is this crossover at 3000hz as is most Altec numbers relate, or is it just the model number?

I'm thinking that's just the model #. It looks like they used a 16 Ohm HF driver with an 8 Ohm LF, if I understand it right, but I don't see mention of a crossover point. :scratch2: That's my main interest right now, figuring out where mine cross, so I can decide what drivers are most suitable.

I'm pretty sure they are too, but the values are quite a bit different from most of the N800 series. These use a 30 uF & a 6 uF on each, & like I said, 2 different sizes of inductors. All the references to N800x I've seen said the 2 inductors were the same size. :scratch2: Also, one is center-tapped, which I don't really understand yet. That's why I wanted to recap them, just to see how they sound, might be better or worse than the "normal" ones. :scratch2: :D

I have zero recollection of having done this....

Aren't you supposed to be omni-present, or something like that? :D Don't feel bad, most of us don't remember what we did a month ago, & I believe you're a bit sharper than that, at least. ;)

I have a couple of the 3000 series crossovers, they were mated with the 3000 series tweeter. Considering the other Altec model numbers, I'm tempted to assume that the crossover point (and the lowest effective range of that little tweeter) is 3000Hz.

Gogofast, how has your project gone? I've just come into a set of sevilles about 60 away from yours. Was thinking this might be a nice 1st XO job for me to see what these really sound like.
