Altec santana II

Scored a pair of Altec santana IIs at the thrift yesterday, cabinets are in excellent condition, but sadly the woofers arent original. Can anyone tell me what woofer was in this speaker originally as i would like to restore these to original if i can find a pair. I realize these arent the best of the Altecs, but i believe they are worthy of redoing as the cabinets are so nice and id like to have them in my collection. Any help appreciated-Phil

My Santana Is have 420s (similar to 415C) in them. Managed to replace the tiny tweeter with 806s mounted to a mid-range metal horn crossed at 2000 hz. The Santana's, IMO, are excellent speakers especially for jazz.

BTW what did you pay for them. I found my set in a GW while visiting Kent WA area. Cost me $50 for the pair and about $150 to ship them back to Vegas. Still worth the cost IMO.

santana II

Paid 50 bucks for them, which i thought was good, considering the cabinets are in pristine shape. Just want to hear there full potential, before i decide whether they get a stall in the stable. Thanks for all your help.-Phil

Santana use 420A woofer and CTS 33695 tweeter

Santana use 420A woofer and CTS 33695 tweeter
That's absolutely correct, but the OP isn't about 879A Santana's.

The OP is asking about Santana II which uses a completely different driver load for the LF.

Also, some 879A Santana's can be found with Becker 30896 tweeters.

Can anybody suggest a good replacement that's reasonably priced?

I've been looking for a set of the same woofers for a set of model 9 series 2 that need those rare 13 inch woofers. No luck yet...:tears::tears:

My sister has a pair that need refoaming as a minimum, but they kept playing them after the foam died.
