altec/Sparkomatics on Ebay

Actually, I thought they were pretty darn nice sounding when I first heard them years ago. Especially those powered towers. Those things were massive!

I don't think any of the sparko/altec stuff was bad or low quality, the speakers had more of an "east coast" flavor without the character of the classic west coast built Altec 2 way systems the collectors fawn over.

IMO, the sparko/altec stuff was a step up from the Telex/EV/Altec stuff in terms of quality, and if the altec name hadn't suffered some of the black eyes it's previous owners had dealt it, then maybe the company wouldn't have had to announce it's cessation of operations just a few weeks ago.

Interesting.. carbon fiber cones.... guess you can say they are bulletproof speakers? ... nah.. I know me.. I can blow them no problems.. :)

I think these would be a great project speaker for making like new starting with some black paint... I mean look at those binding posts.. man are those are old and gotta be trash.. a pair of those new cheap ones would be a great start for an upgrade...

I looked at these via catalog only in 1989 along with their big boys (Bias 550 for example) but couldn't come up with the $$$ at that time.

If these were local I would jump. Shipping these would have to be done via freight in my opinion.
