Altec Valencia 846-A Crossovers

I was just given a pair of Altec Valencia 846-A speakers in good condition. I have taken out the drivers so I can refinish the cabinets. I would like to replace the N-800-F crossovers, but don't think I want to attempt to build new ones. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase assembled crossovers for a reasonable cost. I've seen and read about the German ones, and although very nicely done, they are a bit out of my price range.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Ebay user mast_mutter is known for making high-quality Altec crossovers. The price may have you reconsidering building your own. Jeff Markwart (https://greatplainsaudio.com/jeff-markwarts-corner/) probably has an updated schematic you could use.

I built my own crossovers for my 604s and it was not hard at all.

This topic should be moved over to The Lansing Legacy forum so the other Altec guys will see it.

PS - After rereading your post, I see you're already aware of the German crossovers on Ebay.

A year ago I bought a pair of Altec A7-500-W speakers and I have since spent many hours trying to educate myself about upgrading the crossovers and the options for buying a pre-assembled set. As with many audio subjects, opinions vary widely as to the best approach.... A few options that I am aware of that might fit your needs and budget are;

Some people will disagree with this idea - other Altec owners have done it and love the results... ALK Engineering, they design and build Klipsch crossovers but people have used them with Altec, love the results and It is the cheapest option I know... Google search Altec and and ALK Engineering together

Contact http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/index.html ... They are in Europe but ship to US. Very knowledgeable about circuit designs and component options. Shipping and assembly cheaper than I would have guessed, extremely helpful. I do recommend them.

Crossovers are simple to build in comparison to other audio components. Perhaps someone on this forum in your area who repairs gear would build your crossovers once you have decided on the circuit you are going to use. Are you planning on building the new crossovers using the N-800-F circuit?
Other options I am aware of are more expensive then these listed above.... Many owners prefer using electronic crossovers with vintage Altecs... Lots of options, just not many that are inexpensive if someone else is building and shipping them to you.

I ended up deciding to build my own and put the money I saved into using higher quality parts in the crossover build... I am of the opinion that the drivers in your Valencias are worthy of the highest quality crossovers you can afford.

Maybe just replace the capacitors? Or if you can do the work yourself I would consider building new xovers so you can play around with components.

I know GPA has some premade xovers, but they are expensive. Not sure if they make something that could replace the N800F

I have heard the Werner Jagusch crossovers sound nice, but I’ve never heard a pair.
