Altec Voice Coil Rub.... What to do?

Anybody have a reason why I should NOT remove the dustcaps and see what I can see? I'm thinking if an expensive recone is what's needed, there's no harm in hacking into the originals.. :scratch2:.
 
Funny, these have been just sitting on a shelf since that last post. I just went to move them somewhere else and... not rubbing at all. Finicky buggers.
