Just Pulled these down from a Gym where I installed a new sound system, in great shape and appearance other than 65 years of dirt and dust, they were installed in the 60s in the original gym. Going to clean them up and possibly resell down the road, I want to hear them and clean them up but will leave them as original as I can. This is the second pair I've owned, the last pair were in the early 70s and used in a rock band pumping out the jams...can't wait to hear them, not sure of the date of manufacture or model yet. Hoping the woofer is Original as is the Horn Driver. Ive got a Big room, But Ive got Lascalas in the front Stereo position, might have to make these the rear for a week or two and do some WHO Quadrophenia shows...

Who knows I may clean and refinish them, and keep them, sell the Lascalas, I cant have my cake and eat it to LOL....My Marantz receiver would enjoy it though and that big sound is cool, the neighbor next door is a church they might not enjoy the WHO like I do, just hoping all original parts in there.
 
Nice find. Start figuring out how to pretty them up. I predict that they will go nowhere. Damacman is right, they should easily trounce your Lascalas.
Lots of stuff to do to upgrade them as well. GPA is your source for parts. They make and sell genuine Altec parts made on the Altec factory tooling.

In the 70s I had 4 of these and two RCA Subwoofer Bins ala Bob Heil sound systems and it was a popular PA system we did many bands through this setup, Moving it all was a beast but the SOUNDDDDDD....Driven by Phase Linear 700s and Crown DC 300S.....I installed a sound system into an Older rural high school and asked the Principal where was the old sound system he pointed way up in the corners and there they were, I made a deal to buy them on the spot, discounted his install fees and we had to wait for a Scissors lift to get them down, I'm going backwards in time now.....
 
Thanks, got it lots of good links and reading there, quite a storied history of Altec and Audio in General, I lived and worked in Hollywood in the late 80s and early 90s doing Rock and Roll Lighting, on my days off I would seek out the old studios, old pro recording and electronic shops, got some great tours and back stage tours of Pantages, Mayan and many other old Hollywood Theatres. The history of JBL and Altec very interesting and the timeline of the development of Pro Theatre systems....never get enough of it, I was always on the lookout for the Gear....

To be 60s material, the horn should be green. Likewise, the crossover. I have a pair of N500G IIRC sitting inside my speakers. They are green and I think the label for shelving is also green. Cans for the crossover are later. Knob is later too.

More pics after i get the mud daubers out and pull the woofers ill clean them up and test everything, one of the cr5ossovers is missing, but its the beginning of a rehab...

Are those CTS woofers?

You can pick up a pair of Altec 418/421/422 for pretty cheap if you want to replace the non Altec woofers.
They might sound good as is though
 
I haven't tested them yet, but they appear to be intact and not damaged but they have to be very brittle, I wonder if recone kits are available, or what would be a good upgrade for these, Ive got a bunch of JBL speakers but would like to keep them as original as possible. The Horns have Dirt Daubers plugging them and Im hoping they haven't damaged the drivers, I plan to take these apart and clean them etc...Ill be contacting GPA for missing or updated crossovers, and kits....they may get a spin in the house before I sell them.
