Altered Altec Sevilles

Long time no see AK,

Finally some new prospects in my area for pickup! There are a pair of altec seville cabinets and original(?) woofers with them, but a previous owner cut new holes in the baffle for Realistic horn drivers & is missing a grille  The gentleman is asking $225. What's a reasonable offer for damaged goods such as these? My goal is to make a viable econowave project out of the speakers.

Altec 414s are my favorite, they have very good midrange and have a nice top end roll off. Simple to blend a smooth sounding horn/driver crossed at around 3khz to augment the high frequency overtones. I think $225/pr. is a good deal for a pair alone IF they have no tears and the voice coils are intact! If you can get them cheaper, so much the better  Good luck!

I'm not sure if I believe that paying the full offered price for damaged cabinets like that is worth it. The woofers, assuming they work, I'd imagine are worth buying by themselves though.

If you don't want them, pick them up for me...I'll be in Philly tomorrow. I could use those cabinets!
Joe, if you're willing to drive up a ways from Philly I'll pm you the link since I don't think I'll jump on them.

are they really worth getting without the original HF drivers and the new baffle cutouts?

The woofers are worth $200, I'd say. These are great drivers, as setup1 agrees.

The Realistics I'd chuck in the trash without an afterthought. And I'd alter the baffles even more, so that is not a consideration for me...but I'm a DIYer not a collector.

I have a pr of 414s. I need cabs for experiments. I have a couple horns I want to try out in that configuration.

How far out of town are they? PM me.

I would grab those. I have been looking for bigger cabs for my 414's too. I would take advantage of the already "altered" cabs and try out some different horns in there.
It sucks cutting up good, original speakers but these are already altered:)

Edit- or the same as what Joe said:music:
