Alternatives to Denon AVP-8000 as a Preamp

I have read that Denon AVP-8000 has a very good DAC, many people, including some Mac owners, are using it as their audio preamp. The problem is, this is a very old model (~1995), would it last that long? To be honest, I am on a budget and am contemplating finding a cheap, good sounding, outdated but still running strong, AV unit to act as my preamp, feeding it into MC2205. A bonus would be to have a good photo input, I have a Technics SL-3200 TT. Any suggestions?
