Alto Reed (Silver Bullet Band Sax) Tapes from before the Bob Seger days

If this isnt the right forum for this just point me to the proper page. Not sure how much interest people will have in these but i find it pretty cool and would appreciate any help with info you fine folks could give me. I havent been able to find much on any of the names other than Altos.

I won some R2R tapes from Alto Reeds estate (real name Thomas Cartmell) who was longtime sax player in Bob Segers Band. The tapes are dated 68' so that would be 4 years before The Silver Bullet Band even existed.(I dont belive Bob has anything to do with these tapes) There are 3 Tapes all labeled "The Otherside" reels #1-4 but #3 is missing, i got 4 reels in the auction lot but one appears to be unused, (original lead sticker still holding tape down on the spool) may contact the auction house just in case theres one laying around because the rest of his estate was auctioned off over a few auctions back in april, along with some masters, Hi8 Masters?(not sure but they had some official looking paperwork and boxes)of concerts/ music videos maybe, backstage footage and conerts on VHS. so im not sure if these tapes were lost in the wearhouse or what. Talked with the guy at the auction house and he said that nobodys been able to listen to them because nobody there has a machine but he was real interested and asked me to send him a link when i get it digitized.

Ive only listened to the first couple songs of tape #1 of which is a cover of Dusty Springfields spooky, and a song i wasnt sure of, vocals were... Meh. but sax and everything else sounded pretty good. I want to hook my deck up to my PC and just record the first play through just in case anything happens. Whats a good program? I havent digitized anything i have yet but figure this is a good motivator to finally learn.

Also where can i post it, do i have to worry about copyright strikes taking it down etc.

I only ask because ive had a video or two of my gear taken down before for copyright bs because of what i was playing, even some real off the wall stuff

Should i play the tape from my decks line out to my pc or hook it to my amp and try recording that way? Im not 100%my amp can do that but i already have the cord from there to my PC, i can alway move tings around if i need it to go straight from the deck, ideally i want the best results i can get, im thinking about using audacity because ive heard its pretty good.

What about going headphone jack out to your audio in on your PC?

These are the kind of things I always thought would be great in the RTR tape swap.

I've followed Bob Seger since the Hideout days in Detroit. Always thought Alto was the coolest addition to the band. I'd be interested in hearing those tapes even though they are pre-Seger.

Thats how i was debating on doing it, just gotta move some stuff around for the chord this evening. The quality is good enough for streaming through my headphone jack to stereo so i gotta imagine it would sound ok for digitizing. Think youtube would remove them if i upload over there? would like to make it downloadable as well but not sure the best way to go about that yet. Havent uploaded anything like this before

Do you happen to know some good places I can upload them? Will try YouTube but I'm not sure if they'll get pulled because of some of the covers. I would like to put just the audio up for download somewhere as well. With finds like this I think they should be made readily available for fans and people who are interested to check out so thats my main concern with these tapes

I record cassette tapes to my PC using Audicity and a converter that goes from the deck to a USB port on my PC. Works well and I put the MP3s on the PC into iTunes and make a CD. Wonder how many laws I’m breaking? Of course it could all be hearsay.

Have always like Seger and the SB band. Their logo is a little suggestive.

Hi, I'm new here and a major Bob Seger collector. I thought I'd chime in on this thread, Doug Robert. I remember watching when those particular Alto Reed tapes that you won went up for auction. Congrats on the purchase! I can't remember if I bid or not, however I decided to bow out knowing that Bob Seger was likely not involved with Alto back 1968. Was there a cassette tape that was included, also? Interesting stuff, nonetheless. Back in June there was an auction lot from the same auction house that was for 25-30 cassette tapes, including studio stuff with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. I bid on those tapes at the last minute, but my bid went into 'pending' for some reason and ultimately the second highest bidder got those. I am still disappointed, LOL! I am on a mission to find who won those tapes and make a deal with someone, LOL!
