Aluminum knobs separated from plastic inserts for control knobs

What glue is recommended to use to reattach the aluminum knob "sleeves" onto their plastic inserts that are used on bass/treble/balance/input selector knobs?

I was taking apart some gear last night and the knob components separated.
Thanks,

Thanks,

I use a tiny drop of two part epoxy.. I keep a double syringe of it on top of my oscilloscope, and just meter out and mix up a tiny bit for jobs like this. Make sure to put the knob on the amp while it's still wet, so you can make sure it's lined up right.

okay that helps. I don't have epoxy handy but I wonder if it is just easier to use a hot glue gun and put a tiny dab of glue on the inside end of the plastic portion. The knobs fortunately have grooves and notches in them to align them and prevent free spinning of the aluminum cover.

I use contact cement. It comes in a brown bottle found at Home Depot. 2 part epoxy works great too. Just make sure it get put back on right the first time.

Hot glue would be a pain as it would cool as soon as you touched the aluminum to it and you'd end up with the knob sticking out a bit too far. I'd second a tiny bit of two part or contact cement. Just a little will do the trick and make it a lot easier to reverse if it doesn't go on just right.

Thanks,

On my 5800 tone control, I used a drop of super glue.

Any popular modern super glue type. Don't apply much as it will spread, just to the bottom part of plastic insert and half the depth of sides of it. It will bond strong for decades as it fits tight.

Any of the suggestions will work adequately. Just make sure you get it right the first time because they won't come apart if you want them to. I made the mistake of putting one together backwards, good thing drilling it out worked in a pinch.

Another who uses contact cement.
Look at the two parts while apart. There will be a marking, dot or raised slash on the plastic half. Something used to indicate correct position relitive to marking on outer.
If not apparent place the plastic half onto shaft. Find position, double check. The with a dab of cement inside bottom of the outer half align and send home. Not to much adhesive. A little goes a long way. I will put a piece of blue tape under just encase some oozes out later.
