While looking through CL yesterday, I saw an ad with the title "Misc Receivers". The picture was of a Kenwood double cassette player, 90's vintage, and $0 price. My first thought was, move along folks, nothing here to see.

Well, I clicked anyhow. Here's the list of items for sale, taken from the ad. (There was also a picture of each.)
Kenwood tape player 17x10
Panasonic receiver 19x12
Kenwood record player 14x16.5
Kenwood CD receiver 14x17.5
Pioneer antique receiver 17.5x22

Pioneer antique receiver you say. What could that be? Maybe something like this?

Since there were no prices listed, I emailed asking how much they wanted for the Pioneer. The reply was, make me an offer. The following was my reply.

If I were unscrupulous, I'd make a ridiculously low offer hoping that you didn't know what you had.

The Pioneer SX-1250, in good shape and in good working order, sells anywhere from $1500.00 and up. At least that's the asking price on ebay.

My suggestion would be to join (free) Audiokarma. and ask a bunch of questions. Questions about pricing needs to be in the Dollars and Sense forum only. (Scroll down to find it.)

I really don't need it as I was just curious and thought I might let the people on AK know that it was available, and for how much.

Does it work? Do you have any way to test it? I'd be happy to take a look at it if you don't know much about it.

Well..........................I was made an offer I couldn't refuse. Turns out that it had belonged to her father, who passed about 12 years ago, and that it was just time to let it go.

I had thought about cleaning it up, having it checked out (I don't have the time) and then flipping it. However, I think I'm going to keep it. At least for now.

Between the work he has now, and the upcoming vacation, my tech can't get to it until mid November. Going to be a nice Christmas present to myself. :)upload_2019-9-3_19-14-28.jpeg

I'm sitting here imagining what the Kenwood "record player" was with visions of a KD-990 dancing in my head. :banana:

Probably not the case mind you,but one's imagination tends to run wild when hearing 'bout these sorta things.

Well, I HAD to check and see if it worked. First off, it definitely has 12 years of dust, dirt and grime in it. (Looks like it was stored in the garage the whole time. :() Tested good on a DBT (that I had to make first), hooked up the speakers and CDP, turned it on and, nothing. Fortunately, it was just a very dirty volume pot and it works just fine. I'm a happy camper. :biggrin:
 
Several years ago I noticed a CL ad that said "Big AZZ" speakers and radio. The speakers were the focal point of the add and I could tell they were somewhat worthless. I noticed the "radio" in the last picture was somewhat blurry but I could make out that it was a silver faced Yamaha Integrated.

The price was $50 so I called the # listed and we agreed to meet the next day. I met the seller in fast food parking lot and when he opened the trunk I was greeted with a grubby pair of speakers not worth the effort of repairing and a Yamaha CA-1010 amp. Deal completed I loaded up the gear and dropped the speakers off at the local GW and later on the amp at my buddy's shop.

A few days later he called and said other then a little bit of basic maintenance and some cleaning it was good to go. Sweet amp!!!!!
 
Hey that turntable looks familiar! Nice find :beerchug:..maybe we could trade the 1250 for my CD mags..seems..uhh..fair. :D:rflmao:

Not being a turntable guy, and not being awake that long, it took me a minute to pick up on that. :confused: :rflmao:
 
Rick: No problem. The SL-DD22 isn't a bad model, btw. And it looks like Ebay vendor "wolfsbigbadgarage" still offers the AT450, basically a renamed AT316EP, for ca. 65 bucks - in case you'd like to equip it with an adequate cartridge with a nice needle with a nude diamond with medium-sharp elliptical tip.

P.S.: Where exactly in CO are you located, btw? My aunt and uncle used to run several souvenir shops in Winterpark, before they retired.
 
I had a Technics SL1200 Mk5 for several years that I finally sold, because I never used it.

I'm a native Coloradoan and have never been to Winter Park. I don't ski. Winter Park is not that far, due west of Denver. I'm North, Northeast of Denver (about 60 miles) in Greeley. There is a huge feed lot Northeast of Greeley and we are pretty much surrounded by farms. Certain times of the year, and especially during planting/fertilizing season, it can be very "aromatic". ;) It's now too bad anymore, but several years ago someone made a T-Shirt that said, "Welcome to Greeley. Who Farted?"
 
Rick: Oh, I see. I was just curious - 'cause iirc there's a Pawnee area to the northeast of Denver. Haven't been there, though, when I visited my aunt and uncle in Winter Park in 1993. With them I only visited a couple of more touristic places like Royal Gorge, Garden of the Gods and the Manitou Cliff Dwellings museum...
