Am I a chicken or smart?

Here's the situation. Local CL add for a brand new 500' spool of 3/0 THHN/THWN copper building wire. Looked it up and 1000' weighs about 575 lbs. /2= 287.5lbs X $2.30 per lb. = 661$ minus the weight of the spool and insulation of course. Guy confirms type and weight, says he doesnt have time to strip/scrap it, but he will if no one buys it. I had the whole deal ready to go down and I decide at the last minute that it's too "shady". I watch the news and I also know what it means when a person is trying to sell something like this and they are talking a 100 miles a minute on the phone. I just wonder if I could have doubled my 300 or if I was smart to call the whole thing off. I suppose I will never know.:scratch2: Would anyone have followed through with it? OBTW, this is not some kind of loaded question and I hope thats not where this goes. I talked to my brother about it, he said too shady. Any thoughts?

Life's too short to take a risk on buying/selling stolen property. Hell, AK members generally have a fairly jaundiced view of flipping audio equipment. Accordingly, I wouldn't expect much support for such shady dealings. I would have avoided it like the plague (and you should too).

You've got a good gut it sounds like. What's that they say, you can't con an honest man? Or something...

Humans are reluctant to trade with an item that is stolen from psychological property.

I would not care. If I engage in a similar practise, I hope I will not get caught.

Also, you could be a type of human that resides on morals. If you obtain the item, try and return it to the origin of the “psychological property”.

Thats very interesting. Psychology has always fascinated me. Peoples behaviors and the foundations behind them.

I think the real reason that I decided against it was because I would obviously be dealing with not so scrupulous individuals and that somehow it may either not be a safe situation (carrying 300 cash) or that the seller was being deceitful in some way. I wish I could say that my decision was based on morals but I am not sure that was my biggest concern.

I'm not clear what you are saying.

To me this seems to say trading in stolen property and theft are OK as long as you put it out of your mind and don't get caught.

Please tell me I have misinterpreted your post.
