Am I Tired!

Well it looks like it's been one of those weekends. First , I get a day off for Texas Independence Day on Friday. Well wouldnt ya know it, my Ford F150 decides it time for a new clutch slave cylinder. Being a state employee and living quite tight, I decided to the job myself. Rented a transmission jack, picked up a new slave cylinder, and since the transmission has to be pulled to get to it, a new clutch and pressure plate as well. That set me back about $160 plus the $25 for the jack. We (myself and a friend of mine) got the job done in about 5 1/2 hours and , by the way the rear universal joint had also decided it would go south, another $16 and a trip to the parts store. We returned the transmission jack only to find out the $25 was for 24 hours not 1 calendar day, well, another $25 down. I managed to throw out my right shoulder doing the clutch job by the way, and still hurt . My wife had ordered new countertops (1 inch granite) from her daughter who is in the business, so we got them at a steal, (right at 80% off ) YAY!!! What makes it bad is they were going to install them on Saturday. We got a phone call Friday night around 7:00pm stating they had finished the countertops and they were on their way out to install them. They arrived around 8:30pm and started installing them, well the first thing that happened is my wife's daughter and her boyfriend got crossways. After that settled down I was notified they were going to have to do the sink cutout onsite after the countertop was installed. You cant imagine how much dust is generated when they cut granite. (Luckily I had the foresite to seal off the kitchen from the rest of the house,) but none the less dust went everywhere. More arguing, less gets done, finally they settled down and finished the job around 1:30 am Saturday morning. Now we have to clean the entire house of dust, probably several trips to the dry cleaners, not to mention how time will be spent in the utility room doing laundry. We finally got rid of them around 2:30 am as everyone was commenting on how good the countertops looked. (They do look fantastic by the way). Around 2:45 I am so tired I cant sleep so, I decided to pour up two fingers of scotch as a nightcap. Just as I was settling in, the damn dog goes completely nuts as a raccoon had decided to visit my back porch for an early morning snack of cat food. Chased the critter off, got back in bed, almost drifted off, AND THE DAMN ALARM CLOCK GOES OFF!!!The wife had mistakening set the alarm. Today she (my wife) is her parents house helping them out and won't be home till late evening, so maybe I can kick back a couple and relax. Damn, I just remembered I have to hook up the plumbing and disposal for the new sink that came with countertops, and I cant do that for at least two hours because the sealant hasnt cured. Where's that bottle of scotch? I'll take care of the damn sink tomorrow............goodnight all.......One other thing before I drift off, is I attched a pic of the countertops.

I having been remodeling my house for the last 18 years I can relate LOL

You should try doing that kind of work in a house that has no square corners or plumb walls. When I put in my new Formic counter tops I went to the local appliance store and got a Fridge box that I cut up and used to make a full size pattern the counter top is about the same size as yours from the looks of it. And since it used contact cement the whole thing had to be placed perfectly first try.

Luckily I had done stuff like this with some of my flying model airplanes and knew to put 1/4" wood dowels under the formica to make sure it was all lined up first before pulling them out and allowing the glue to touch.

About three weeks after getting them finished and after everyone told me how great it looked.

I'm sitting in my office when the wife slams a big family pack of frozen chicken thighs of the edge trying to break the package

I screamed but she didn't stop until the third wack. there are no three nice 1/2 1/2 dollar size dents in the edge of the formica With no way to repair or improve the looks of.

Sometimes it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Look at all that dust. I have been remodeling mine for 14 months now. Still have 2 porches and a computer room to go. I'm almost broke.

Yeah, what kinda Scotch didja drink?

BTW, my wife relates. She's been painting the interior of our house for three months, and swears she's farther from finished than when she started.

got sidetracked...........one more before I go, then the movies and scotch........blended.....not really a single malt man...........but Glenn Levit is good on occasion.........

You could be my twin brother from a different mother.

I went thru something similar a number of years ago with a small project

My wife wanted new counter top, so on a short budget we buy a remnant cheap. It turned into a nightmare.

45 bucks for counter top

2500 bucks in the end: after we removed the old counter top and found a plumbing leak, long story I won't bore you with.... even had to re-drywall and shoot texture

After a couple of cases of beer ((between my brother and I (he was the brains)) after the fact, it looked fantastic!

As does your counter tops, a little rest and you'll have a story to tell your friends and neighbors which gets better with the telling and scotch :thmbsp:

Look on the bright side, if the truck was a 4x4 you would have had to pull the transfer case as well.
