Amazon? Phoohey!!

wasclywabbit

When the going gets wierd, the wierd turn pro.
Amazon music tech support are collectively a bunch of - I gotta say it - idiots. They don't even know what Amazon devices are compatible with their own HD music service. They don't know that bluetooth is lossy. They don't know that an echo dot, that they claim will play HD doesn't- only bluetooth which totally defeats the purpose for having HD. They say they're trying fix the issue, they're not. One support department doesn't have a clue what the f*** the other is doing. So I'm back to my CCA. But not with Amazon HD. I'm switching back to Tidal, whose format I don't especially like but I can't in good conscience give my business to Amazon any longer.

Don't feel alone. I once had a Comcast tech try to convince me that there really isn't stereo TV audio. He claimed they ran a mono signal through a comb filter to get left and right channels.

Hey now, Jeff Bezo will go broke with talk like that! :rflmao:

Not a big streamer but like to audition music that I later want to buy. Used Qobuz for a year and liked it OK but now am just going with Spotify as it seems to be a better experience finding new stuff I like. 320 k is okay for auditioning, and really doesn't sound that bad at all.

Amazon HD works flawlessly for me in 3 systems. I use an iPad or iPhone with an Apple camera adapter to my DAC in one and Windows PC's connected to DAC's in the other two. It's not wireless, but if I'm listening in a situation where HD is really appreciated, I'm sitting down; the 6' tether to my DAC isn't an issue. Otherwise, I'll use AirPlay, which isn't HD but is lossless.

I tried Amazon HD for a while and went back to Qobuz. It drove me crazy with Amazon that not all tracks on an album would be streamed in the same bit depth and sampling rates. I used Tidal for about a year until Qobuz was introduced in the USA. I couldn’t hear any difference between Tidal and Qobuz and Qobuz is cheaper.

My issue is not with Amazon HD, per se. My issue is with a company that, either through ignorance or deception, misrepresents the performance of their product(s). It's inconceivable that I'm the first subscriber that ran up against this problem. And I waste my time purchasing, messing around with and then returning a useless item.

Certainly Spotify is the best for exploration and discovery. Their software logic/algorithms are exceptionally good at finding new music you might like. If SQ was not an issue, it would be my #1 choice.
