Amp Advice for JBL P20 Speakers

I'm very new to this, but I'm trying to get a basic set up going.

I've got a pair or JBL P20 bookshelf speakers (6 ohm, 10-60w recommended), and I'm looking for advice on how to match an amp/ what amps might be good.

One specific question is whether I need to match watts per channel as closely as possible, or if I got a more powerful amp (say 100 wpc), would it deliver an acceptable amount power to my speakers at lower setting, and I would just need to be conscious of not cranking it up and blowing my speakers?

I'd be happy with general advice on what amp specs I should look for, or any specific amp recs. Thanks!

Hi Devilfeet. I just saw this thread and am aware its a year later. I have an opportunity to get a pair of the P20s in fantastic shape for dirt cheap. Realizing they are 6 ohm speakers, that shouldn't cause any problems. I have an Onkyo tx 8020 receiver with 50 wpc to try them on. That should be plenty enough power. However, damage done to a speaker pair whilst cranking them with lower power will do more harm due to distortion potential, than a higher powered receiver or amp with clean power. You will have that much more headroom using a higher powered amp, than lower powered. Mind you, either one would be fine, but myself...I would go with a higher powered source. Just be aware of cranking them. If you want to be safe, just look online for a cheap used radioshack power indicator box which connects between the amp and speakers so you can monitor the amps output. Just an idea. Now that I am older, I don't crank any of my systems like I used to. I get more music information with the volume around 11:00....loud but not extreme. I think I will dust off my old "closet queen" receiver which has 110 wpc and use it providing I do indeed grab the speakers. For more headroom. Plus, more power if I choose to use it.
