Hello everyone. I just bought a turntable, the Technics sl-DD22 refurbished from a local record store. This is my first time handling a turntable. I just got into buying vinyl records and I decided to purchase it to play them.

I found myself in a predicament the other day. I went to test the turntable out at my friends house using his stereo amplifier and the speakers made the "crackly pop" sound. It was very loud and disturbing. We tried using the speakers with a CD player and this sound was not present then. I am assuming it was the stereo amplifier that was the problem. However, I worry that it can be the turntable as well.

When I first bought the turntable, the vender was telling me that this sound might occurr with older receivers. Now, my question is which stereo amplifier should I use for the Technics sl-DD22 turntable? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AK, sir.

Any amplifier with a phono stage will work. There should be no popping, regardless of what amplifier/receiver is used, as long as you have it connected properly.

I was getting nervous that it was the turntable that caused the popping. How could it be explained then if it wasn't the speakers or the amp/receiver? I'm sure everything was connected right.
