Amp to poweramp

Hello!
I have a Pioneer DC - Z92 rack system. Yesterday I had a chance to get ElectroVoice Q66 power amp. My old Pioneer doesn’t have a preamp output but it has RCA output for “DAT” that I use for sending signal to cassette deck. Would it be possible to send audio signal through that output to the power amp or I have to get a new amp with preamp out?

The problem with using the DAT outputs is that they are not controlled by the volume knob, so the sound will always be at a fixed level (and possibly too loud or too quiet). If you want to connect a power amp to your system, you'll need a speaker level to line level adapter (available on Amazon). Note that when you use that, you're sending your output through two amplifiers: the built-in amp and the external amp. So if the built-in amp has some unpleasant characteristics, you will still hear them. Really, the only reason to do this is if you need more power (or if you want to run multiple sets of speakers with different amps).

Just realized you could also get an external volume attenuator to go between the DAT outputs and the EV amp; however, you'll also have no balance control, and the EQ probably won't work either. And there's also the possibility that there isn't enough output to drive the amp to any meaningful level.

you'll want a speaker to line level converter. They're mostly used in automotive sound to add an additional power amp to a system without pre-outs
