Amplifier - 110V to 240V mains transformer

Mains voltage in the UK is 240V. If I want to use an integrated amplifier of 400W or so and it’s spec is 110V.... what type, or level of quality do I need for a step down transformer? What specs should I be looking for in the transformer?
Presuming that I can’t just plug in a 110V travel adapter and hope it’s fine... or can I?

Probably won't even start up properly on a travel transformer. Get a step-down rated at 600 Watt or more if you intend to run it at high power output.

Too small a transformer will drop the voltage and increase the current flow, which is bad for semi-conductors.

I'd probably have a look at the service manual or schematic to see if the unit can be converted to 240v operation first. Sometimes its an easy internal change, sometimes not.
