Amplifier Connection Question

Hello everyone! This is going sound like a totally dumb question, but I am a novice. I have an old Yamaha 992 Receiver and I wish to connect 2 stereo amplifiers to it. My instruction manual does not cover this scenario. I am wondering if the Main Out (17) and the Sub Out (18) are both line level outputs and if that is the proper way to connect these 2 external stereo amplifiers.

The subwoofer outputs are mono, not left and right.

More info would be helpful.
Are the amplifiers the same?
Do they have gain controls?
What is the reason for adding two amps?
Does the receiver have a 5 channel stereo setting?
 
I am just trying to set-up a 2 channel system. I have a pair of Infinity RS 4.5 speakers that are notorious for eating amplifiers. Therefore they wish to have ample power. My plan was to drive the high/mid sections with a Yamaha M-45 (125 WPC) and to drive the bass sections with a Yamaha M-70 (200 WPC). The Receiver (RX-V992) itself is 5.1 channels. see image:

I might also add, that these speakers came with an active crossover unit. I know I can use 1 line out (L/R) from the receiver to the Infinity Crossover Unit which has high and low outs that would go to each amp respectively. However, I was considering not using the Crossover Unit.

if you don't use the Infinity crossovers which crossovers will you use? :idea:

The Main out jacks (17) are what you would use to connect to another amplifier or to other amplifiers. If you want to use another separate power amplifier, you would just need a simple pair of RCA interconnect cables. If you are wanting to use two separate power amplifiers then you would need a pair of Y adapters and 2 pairs of RCA interconnects.

Exactly right
#17 on your labeled drawing
 
You might also be able to use #13, Room B output along with the previously mentioned #17 Main Out as long as the #13 is a variable output.

There is probably something in the setup menu that would allow you to control the Room B output via the main volume knob.
 
......or if the receiver has a 5 channel stereo setting you can use the rear preouts and control the volume of each amp separately.
