Amplifier issues

I'm new to vintage audio equipment. I have a little repair experience but not with Marantz. Lately I've had several people asking me to buy their non working Marantz receivers. They are not getting sound and when I ask if they hear a click after turning on the power, they say no and that the actual problem is the relay itself. To me this sounds a little simplistic and I think it's the amp not getting power via bad power switch or etc. Do you guys know if there is a common issue usually causing this problem? How difficult is it to repair.

good news is that we are here to help!

based on what you describe above, sounds more like power amp issues. I have only seen once a relay issue across 200 or so amps.
 
I'm not familiar with Marantz tuners but most of the tuners I've seen don't have relays.
At least not power relays like the protection on an amp or receiver.
 
I'm sure that he meant "receivers" but since they have big honking blue FM dials they look like tuners!

That's what I was thinking also. Never seen a bad relay.
 
Receivers will have relays yea but standalone tuners generally wont.

My guess would be excessive DC at the output causing the protection circuit to kick in.
 
Buy it. It can be fixed, usually not that difficult especially with the experts on this forum.

2245 is a sweet receiver.
