Amplifier Recommendations

Hello Evverybody,

After trying a plethora of speakers (JBL L65, Yamaha NS-10, Infinity Qb and RSIII, Klipsch KG-4 to name a few), I have finally decided that Dahlquist DQ-10s with the passive subwoofer are the keeper. The only problem is that all of my equipment seems to be underpowered. I originally was running it with a Pioneer SA-9500, and today I aquired an Onyko (something 5300) amp that's supposed to be 150 watts/channel, and a Pioneer SX-1050. Neither of these seem to do the trick. I have an Ampzilla II that needs work. I was wondering what any Dahlquist owners run theirs with, or if anyone has any recommendations.

Thanks,
Matt

I don't know offhand what the efficiency ratings are for the Dahlquists, but the Pioneer SX-1050 and Onkyo amp should be more than enough power to blast someone into the next block! Are you purposely trying to go deaf? LOL. :D

The DQ-10's like lots of high-current power, and many receivers do not qualify as "high-current." Lots of DQ-10 owners have reported excellent results using an Adcom GFA-555 (200 wpc) with these speakers. Whenever I get mine restored, that's what I plan to use with them.

The simple answer to "What kind of amplifier should I buy?" is "What sounds good to me?"

What works for my earball other than the assorted home brew I have around here is the Hafler DH-500.

I have yet to audition one, but would an MC7150 require the necessary current, or would I be wanting something more powerful?

Years ago I powered mine with an GAS Ampzilla. Later I switched to a Yamaha M-80. The ampzilla is long gone, the DQ-10's went about a year ago, the M-80 justs sits waiting for something old to to power.
