Amplifiers - rated watts vs. watts per channel

So we learned the consumption rating on the back of amplifiers has no bearing on output and really no value at all. Ok, sounds good. Next?

The great thing about a forum like this is people are free to not participate in any thread they find uninteresting or unimportant or whatever.

I find it interesting that there is no relationship between stated consumption and rated output and am free to participate as you say, but thanks for the reminder. Whatever!

I contend there is a relationship. Knowing the relationship in every case is another matter because clearly there isn't a common method used by all.

That said, there are examples in the thread where the method is known and available to the consumer.

Definitely a relationship in actual.

Just very little consistency on mfgr ratings on either end, from the wall or to the speakers so in the end there is little to go by, and a weak if any correlation, esp between manufacturers.

Watts are all the same and most amps and receivers after 1980 have distortion below the human audible range. Might as well buy a power house this has 8,000 watts in a 50 LB package. Since your power outlet will only give you 1,875 watts safely, you will have to rewire your home like a machine shop with 6 phase service....it's about $4/lb or the cost of Boers Head lunch meat.......https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Zone-Bluetooth-Stereo-Amplifier-Bridgeable/dp/B002UL0XIQ

Well, yes and no.

A 15A circuit can provide 1800W continuously*, but the nature of the trip curve of a breaker allows short term peak currents well beyond rated.

That's why really big amps seem to defy logic of how it works but the big difference between average level and peak level is why it works.

*rabbit trail of 80% rule expected any time. ;)
