An American Cheese Won the World Cheese Awards for the First Time Ever

I almost bought some American Cheese for the 1st time in 30+ years. I had a hankering for a grilled cheese sandwich. Instead I got Blue Stilton and made a cheeseburger.

As a life long cheese lover this is a big deal.

here is a way cool app I have loaded.
Fromage, a giant data base of cheeses from everywhere.

The last company I worked for our Factory/coporate was in Parma Italy, yup thats where parmesan cheese came from. I used to go there frequently for meetings and such. Different culture for sure. 2 hrs for lunch (most go home to take a nap) and restaurants don't open until 7 7:30 pm for dinner. For most they live in the family home forever.

For those of you who don't think America makes great cheese, I suggest you check out the Alp & Dell Cheese Store in Monroe Wisconsin (They ship). Their Grand Cru Surchoix rivals any Swiss Gruyere and they have 10 and 12 year Cheddars that will bring tears to your eyes. They just came out with a natural aged smoked cheddar that's positively addictive. The Lovely Blanche and I have been going there for years since they're just a few hours away from her daughter.

Here is Fromage’s entry on Rogue River Blue.

Almost as fancy as wine descriptors ... well other than the rock candy reference, that's funny. I felt my pinky finger rising in the air, just a bit.

With my blue cheese, I prefer, "instantly melts on your buds while simultaneously smacking you in the face with with a fist full of blue-cheesy aggression." At least, that's how I like it.

Still my favorite:

We are partial to Cabot Cheeses from Vermont. We met the Official Cheese Taster one time standing in line for 4-Packs of Heady Topper.

We usually bring home about 20lbs each trip to Stowe.

I was too, and swore by their Hunter's before they changed it to Seriously Sharp. It isn't as sharp and those nice little calcium crystals aren't there anymore. Now if you want a good sharp Cheddar, try Alp & Dell 10 or 12 year Cheddars!

They do have 3 cheeses with the crystals but I am forgetting the names. What is fun is the annex in Waterbury where you can taste every cheese they make.
