An instant system

This may just be a major scroe. I just picked up a full Pioneer Spec system (Spec 1, Spec 2, CT-F1000, TX-9500). Also got a pair of JBL L150a that need a little TLC.

I emailed the seller and he called me about 30 seconds later. That was a bit weird and threw me off. Either way, I rushed there as fast as I could nearly getting a speeding ticket, hoping the gear would still be there once I showed up.

Looked up the value of the lot when I got home and nearly fainted. I knew the stuff was pricey, but holey moley!!!

All of the pieces power up. The amp has a pretty high DC offset, .73 and 1.28, haven't tried to hook up speakers yet.

The seller still has a Yamaha linear turntable (probably a PX-3) and a two giant Adcom amplifiers which he was intent on keeping (may have been 5500 or 5802 models)

When they say "silver faced" era, these must be on top of the list. These really sparkle!

Congrats on the score!

"I just picked up a full Pioneer Spec system" Close but no Cigar yet,CT-F1250 a TX-9800 Tuner would almost do it but with that being said it looks like you done good but I guess that all depends on what all this cost you to be called a Scroe...hint,hint:)

Drove for a full day to pick it up in the middle of nowhere, but 200 bucks (Spec 1, 2, SG1, 9500 tuner and EQ plus an Akai tape deck that the fellow had sitting around)

Let's just say that what I paid was embarrassingly little. I went in to buy the Spec system, the seller also had the JBL speakers which I jumped on.

I was starting to think everything in this area was already bought and sold. I suppose persistence pays off.

Pics to follow...

I'm glad you are not saying how little you paid. The other guy didn't know what he had or how to sell. Uh, re-foam the JBL's, adjust the amps, and sell as complete system...

BTW, the offset figures are mV and not V?

I went to buy a PL-514 for $15 from a local guy, and ended up with a Spec 1, Spec 4, and TX-9800 for $150.

You'll have fun cleaning them up. Hope your stand is ready for that 60 LB amp.

Tested the preamp and the amp, I now understand why they cost so much - they sound magical even when needing a tune-up. The DC offset is a little high, 78 mV and 128 mV (I'm bringing in the Spec 2 for a look when I pick up my Marantz 240 from the shop)

The speakers are another story. So far, the only working driver on either speaker is a single midrange (OK, the passive radiators are good as well). Both woofers are inop, the left tweeter is also dead. Haven't tried the right speaker mid and tweet but don't have much hope.

The seller's story of a massive Adcom amp failure is making more sense now. His Adcom had a meltdown, burned up the crossovers (the PCB is well charred above a resistor on both) and burned up the woofers. One of the woofers is so burned up it seized. The other one is not feeling well, either.

You got a real score there, alright; a very desirable vintage system for a bargain price, the kind of deal most AKers dream of finding, every time they hunt gear. Congratulations! :thmbsp:

Take the time and spend the money to restore the JBLs --they're worth it. :music: You'll still be way ahead, anyway, with all the money you saved on the Specs.
