An introduction, and my systems . . .

New member, but long-time music/stereo enthusiast. Recently moved into a new house so I reset up my stereos, and bought a few pieces to round things out. A lot of this stuff I've had for years. The receivers/amps were all picked up at pawn shops over the years. Most of the

speakers and the turntable were purchased new. I enjoy listening to classic jazz, blues and some rock, country, Americana, roots music . . .

My main listening area is in a basement room. It's not ideal, as both the speakers and listening sofa are pushed up against the walls. I have a comfy chair next to the equipment where I enjoy headphone listening (with a pair of Grados):

My living room system doesn't get a whole lot of use, since the wife usually watches TV in the room. I may end up using this rig more if I can figure out how to fish wires to the back deck for outdoor speakers:

Another system is set up in a small workshop room. The room is narrow and every inch of floor space is occupied. The wall mount speakers aren't ideal, but they actually sound pretty good when I'm standing at the workbench:

And one more system is set up in the garage. This system is more for background music than any sort of critical listening:

Finally, I have a set of Polks (unknown model) hooked up to an AudioEngine N22 at my computer:

That's what I'm talking about, a stereo in most rooms, maybe a boombox or two in the latrines.....Nice stuff, that CD/MD Sony is interesting, I don't remember seeing a combo like that before, I've got a JDM JVC Boombox with both but no components.

I've just about run out of rooms in this house. Not shown is my wife's home office. I bought her a set of Audioengine powered speakers because she was trying to blast music out of her iPad's tiny built-in speakers. I also have a Aiwa CD/MiniDisc/Tape boom box in our bedroom. Our kitchen/living room/dining room is all one big room so there's music there. No music in the bathrooms, though. As I mentioned, I'd like to put some speakers on the deck.

I have a few questions. Isn't the RCD950 a better cdp than the RCD930ax, so why not use it in your main system instead of the unused system?
Why not hook-up the unused vintage system in the living room to the TV, so watching TV/movies has nice sound?
I've had 2 Pioneer SX780 receivers at different times in the past and they sound really good. I especially loved classical RM radio with it.

Beats me. I really don't know. I just put them in place as I replaced older/balky units. They both sound fine.

Do you have a non-audio enthusiast wife? I'm pretty sure I'd be OK with the order of operation of mixing a vintage unit with a TV, but the thought of convincing my wife to "flip this, turn that" is enough for me to forget the whole notion.

Of course, I was just being cheeky:). I gave up on cassettes years ago. I found they just didn't hold up. All it took was one bad car deck to stretch the tape and all that work was ruined. I did just recently buy a cassette deck just to have the ability to play one if needed. I payed a whopping $12 dollars for it at a flea market and it was in A-1 working condition.
 
Very nice - I had the SX780 in highschool that I bought new and a CTF850 as well - with those lovely blue digital meters.

I like your systems. Like you, I have equipment scattered through out the house. My main listening is done in a fourth bedroom. I have a headphone system that will also drive speakers when my wife's not around.
I left cassettes behind for mini discs too and that fell by the wayside also. I gave one of my decks and half of my cassettes to a friend of my daughters who's a musician. I'm waiting for my son to want the other deck and the rest of the tapes. Welcome aboard.

Don't you and your wife watch movies and tv together? You could flip the switch for her :-)
My wife likes better sound than tv speakers so I made it simple for her...turn on receiver and adjust volume. She's willing.
