An opportunity has come up for a Fisher 400.

I presently have a 500C & a 500B.

I love the Fisher sound. It's contagious.

Sonically speaking, I have experienced the attributes of both models (the 500B and 500C). They are both wonderful units, each one with its own merits.

Where does the 400 fit into the picture, (sonically speaking).

This Fisher bug is really amazing, it's like every model has something that its sibling is lacking.

Given the two units I presently have, what would the 400 have to offer?

The 400 mines the same territory as its parent, the 500-B. If you like that, you'll like the 400. Whether you need it is another question.

The 500's use the 7591 output tube, and the 400 uses the 7868, which is simply a 7591 in a different package.

The 400 was less expensive when new due to a reduction in the amount of controls, etc., compared to the 500-C. There are plenty of folks who think that having fewer components in the signal path gives the 400 a better sound.

As always, your opinion is the only one that matters. I think the 400 is definitely worth experiencing, particularly if you can find one for a decent price.
