Hello,
I have just purchased a Marantz NR1501 surround receiver to replace my old Sony. I do not want to connect all my devices to the receiver and then the receiver to the TV as then I always have the receiver on to play devices. I tried to use the optical out on my Samsung TV as an audio source for the Marantz, but the manual for the TV states that the if the input on the TV is HDMI then the output on the optical will be in stereo. I have since connected my DVD players to the Marantz using the optical in/out and the surround detects automatically on these connections. My VCR and TV will have analog (RCA) outputs to the Marantz, my question .... with the RCA inputs, will a surround mode be available for detection or do I need to use Neo6 to convert stereo to surround. Thanks for any info. Rich
