Analogplanet 9 cartridge survey

The survey did not have a huge response but I thought this might be interesting for others here to see. Michael Fremer at Analogplanet let readers download 9 music files of 9 cartridges playing the same cut.

Then he asked the readers to vote on their favorite cartridges. Fremer posted the results and his comments here:

There were some flaws in the music files but overall it was kind of interesting to compare the differences.

Been discussed already. Pity he mucked up the test, as he acknowledged - even used a different turntable at one point

In spite of the flaws it was interesting to listen to. At least the flaws were acknowledged and next time around will be resolved (we hope). Getting levels the same is hared than it might seem as the dynamic range of various carts can be pretty wide.

Yeah, not the most well controlled comparo. But, it's important to get the listeners involved.

We learned a similar set of lessons about phono stages in this thread: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=522082&page=15

Starting at Post 213 we have good samples to choose from and it's just as interesting. All this has to work together. No point in having a 2M Black pushing a lost cause phono stage ...
