Ancient Pioneer speakers.

They might be rare enough that they don't have a reputation one way or the other. I saw some drivers for sale for those, inexpensive at the moment. If you like them I'd grab up extra back-up drivers while they're cheap. I have an early 60s pair of speakers, didn't have much of a reputation, I could buy a driver for $25 a few years ago, now I see them for $200. I could get a tweeter for next to nothing and see them for $150 now.

They may be CS-a50, or a close match.

I hear you about the price jump. Its how it is now for a lot of vintage gear deserving so or not.

I hear you you about jumps in prices. To be honest I don't know what will become of these.Of course I'll play with them but my audio world is pretty much set.Not a whole lot of time or space for too many projects... to my displeasure.

These are the oldest Pioneer anything I have come across. I'm thinking these are from the 50's.Not much on the web.I think these are unusual because of the Pioneer logo on the speaker cabinet.Usually these are kit or diy setups. There is a pair and the cabs have a broken leg each and look quite weathered. My grandson came across these for free and gave them to me.Heavy suckers they are.
Alinco magnets, those should be pretty efficient. It probably won't take much to drive them. The crossovers look decent, maybe replace the old dried out capacitors with some film caps. They might sound pretty good, but might be a bit bass shy with those smaller magnets. My Warfedale W-90's have two 12" woofers per cabinet. They have pretty big Alinco's so the bass is pretty good. You can always add a sub if needed.

Those are nice speakers. Built before these cs-201? (which look so cool)

I'll recap these at the minimum. wouldn't mind finding some nice cabinets.

I wasn't around back then but there was a lot of anti-Japanese product propaganda going on around that time and it worked. People believed it and it probably made people imagine they weren't hearing what they were out of some Japanese speakers back then.

There is some truth to that. Other countries followed the Japanese model. Mass produce cheap products, build up capital, then produce better products. China, Brazil, etc. all did it. But people will bring up the cheap junk days and won't even look at what's being offered now.

I can't be sure but I'm thinking these go back ten years earlier.

Why is that? I just provided documentation...
I have plenty of Pioneer speakers with Alnico magnets from the 70's. Not that it matters much, but my CS-63's have a PT-257C super tweeters from about 1969.

Thanks for that.I guess these may not be as old as I thought.Off hand I am not real knowledgeable about most anything Pioneer built before 1970.I was very surprised looking at that link dswankey gave me.A lot of nice I didn't even knew existed at one time.
