Engine fire? Was the person somehow thrown up in the air and into the engine?

A lot of people used to think it was funny to yell "What is your major malfunction?" at a person who messed up. Jokes get old very quickly with me, so I would remind the person asking the question that after the drill sergeant was shot and killed by the recruit immediately after yelling the question. That put a quick end to that nonsense.

This is just the latest of bizarre behaviors. There's a trend. Someone with sufficient time and resource could discover a cause. Of course there is a cause. These look random, but my money would bet on specific cause.

Suicide by turbofan.
Hi electronjohn,

Gotta admit, this was my first thought as well. Who knows? maybe not, but as someone with aviation experience it seems to me that someone who walks right in front of a turbine engine running at maximum power (the aircraft was on it's takeoff roll), even with no aviation knowledge whatsoever, has gotta know that it's a recipe for disaster. I took it as perhaps being akin to those who commit "suicide by cop", , , someone who pulls a gun out when a whole bunch of cops are already drawing down on them, forcing the police to open fire. As HV says with no suicide note it's likely we'll never know....

Me thinks Denver International needs to review their perimeter security protocols.

I agree 100% with this, the perimeter of many airfields is pretty much a joke, I've seen more than a few with nothing but a simple chain link fence. Sure, in different times this was sufficient to keep most wandering wildlife out, but in today's world it's woefully inadequate to keep out someone with suicidal or perhaps nefarious intent (sabotage)....

With that type of turbofan engine wound-up to launch RPM, does anyone know what the danger zone is? How close is too close?

I find it interesting to see what calamities spur us to want change vs. those that don't.

When I lived in L.A. we had some impressive flooding in the winter of 1992. Those run off canals were raging!

Some kid on a bicycle decided to jump one and he fell in and was swept away and drowned.

The outcry was astounding, with people, no kidding, demanding that canoes be kept tied to every bridge so victims could grab them as they flowed past and be saved.

All this over one instance. I need to check how often people foil airport perimeters and throw themselves into plane engines before I join the 'runway reform' team.

I guess the question is how big an issue needs to be before we are compelled to remediate something.
