And yet one more C-50 pproblem

I know, yet one more C50 with a problem, but let's keep the ball rolling. Recently picked up a C-50 to go with my B-2. Had been using, and returned to using, my Sony TA-2000F, which is in exceptional shape and sounds great, but hardly matches the B-2's basic black looks. When the C-50 arrived I switched out the 2000F and started using the C-50. It sounded pretty good, but suddenly after a few minutes of use the volume doubled loudness. Quickly ran to turn it down and things worked okay after this. I thought it might be simply a wonky control issue, so I turned it back and fort a bunch of times. Next time I use it, same problem, and the next time. Back to the 2000F.

Any ideas about what might cause this. Should I deoxy the volume control or is this something more esoteric. Never had anything like this happen before. Funny thing is the C-50 sounds great otherwise.
