hummm... Im looking at the schematic... holly smokes!!! your right. lite is wired in to all inputs through the selector switch. How odd.... I stand corrected.

check R005 (20 ohms). This is a resistor on the wiring block underneath between the tone amp (P400) and the phono amp (P700). Your 14v runs through this.

Well I poked around and resolder'd a bunch of suspect joints and the lamps are working!!

And yes the lamps work in aux mode!!

Hey megawatt any tips on what to re-do on my 2330?

Now that it looks great with whsh93a's leds and new vellum paper, I want to make sure that it sounds as good as it looks!!

well... after 30 years the caps need replaced. I would start with the power supply caps (P800). Also, the caps on the tone boad (P400 tone) and amp boards (P750). Use a good audio cap for any in the singnal path. Adjust the bias and DC offset and check the voltage at J808 (P800) for 35v ~ 36v.

recapping is more for reliability than sound quality correct??
even if I use better quality like blackgates or Nichion Muse...
I have already ordered replacements for the coupling caps and the main P.S. filter cap, both Nichion Muse FX series

accutally, new caps can have a big affect on sound. Some gear responds better then others, but most of the time you will hear some improvments. When caps age, the resistance (ESR) at any given hz increases. If the cap is in the audio path it will have a direct impact on sound quality.

New caps will bring your bass back in a hurry as well as reliability. Check out Nichicon UKT "audio grade" caps for the signal path (amp, preamp, tone, phono, etc) and Nichicon UPW for the power supply (both at Mouser). Good caps at a great price. YD

This thread has been dormant for a decade but it led me in the right direction today and I discovered I had cold solder joints on my stereo lamp bulbs. Fixed the problem. Moral of the story....check those solder joints.
