Another 70s car post...

Yeah, that baby looks like it ought to have desperate footprints on the inside of its trunklid.

Hey Carmine, any chance that 300 was the sister vehicle to the Cordoba? The shape looks familiar.

The early 70's is when Cadillac was selling a million units a year!!! So you'd expect quality to slip.

There never was a Cannon edition to any of the Marks. Off the top of my pin there were the following:
Pierre Cardin
Bill Blass
Cartier
and another one I don't recall

More trivia......Cannon first drove a Continental 4 door in the pilot episode and got into a wreck with it. Then he drove a Mk III for the first season, eventually switching to the Mk IV once it came out. His radio telephone was sort of a big deal back then, and it would honk the horn when he was away from the car to tell him that the phone was ringing.

Speaking of horns, most of these era Lincolns had steering wheels which had the horn contact around the inside edge of the wheel's rim. Caddy also had this for a year or two (68 and 69 I think) I don't recall Chrysler ever using this.

Oh yeah, Mk III and IV's used Hydro Boost power brakes....this was a system that used the pressurized power steering fluid to assist the brakes instead of the more common engine supplied vacuum. And here's one that will blow the minds of some of the Ford experts.....GM Rochester Quadrajet carbs were used on the MK IV for a year or two!

Lastly, older Lincolns had a power steering pump that was built into the engine timing cover and directly behind the crank pulley. Smoke em if you gottem

Givenchy :D

Not only did Lincoln use a GM carb, they used the rotary GM Frigidaire AC compressor
for several
years so the engine would run smoother. The piston compressor that ford and
chrysler used was rough running.

Congrats, Carmine!

There is nothing like a Lincoln Mark. Low and long. Even the much lighter Mark Vs' are darn near indestructable - I talked to a guy who took down a telephone pole and drove home!

I had no idea there were so many GM parts in them, though. Weird. I do remember buying an alternator for my '76, it was over a hundred bucks! 90 amp or something, huge like the rest of that wonderful monstrosity.

That car will CRUISE at 100 mph. Getting about 3 mpg  .

Have fun!

Pete

Yeah, that's the thing-on my '69 Continental, the damn wheels felt like they were square til you got up to about 75 or so...Fella in Knoxville told me he had one, would go down I-75 to Atlanta w/the cruise set on 100, & just let her go...OK, so a 450 SEL could do it at 120...big deal. On American roads, there's no substitute for a land yacht & MANY cubic inches...Hell, make that cubic yards..but back then, there was gasoline to make it happen.-Sandy G
