The short story: white LEDs through old vellum paper make the display blue again not green as the incandescent bulbs appear to do.
I was working around my new to me 2215B, replacing the fuse lamps in the dial face and meter. All but 2 were blown.
I had also picked up some parchment paper as I liked what I had read about it as opposed to the vellum that gets brown a lot faster, causing the blue display to turn green. The 2215 as well as my 112 tuner both have the green tint, but my only other Marantz relamp was to the 140 amp which did not have working bulbs before I installed LEDs, so I don't know whether it was green or not but it is very blue now.
The 2215b might not be a keeper so I don't want too much time or the extra money for the custom LEDs and anyway, looking at how tight the space was to get at the vellum, I decided to not try to replace the paper for now. During the time I was working on it I was using one of my LED headlamps which of course is a whitish light.
The fuse lamps still shine green out through the panel, but the white LED headlamp produced a very blue light through the old vellum in the display. I know the kelvin rating of the incandescent lamps and the LEDs are not the same, but the difference through the old vellum paper was quite significant.
Since the vellum is not usually easy to replace, I think this adds a lot of weight to the LED case, even if they cost more. Personally I don't really care if the vintage gear is no longer stock. It's no longer stock if it has a green display or if you replace caps either is it?
Now of course I have 40 feet of parchment paper that I had better start baking with too I guess...
