When I get a 25-40 year old originally oiled walnut finished speaker, I like to clean it with acetone and a couple rags. This frequently blackens the rags as all that dirt, oil, dust and accumulation of crud from new is removed down to the nice veneer. I don't soak the speaker, just clean it well. Then a 320 or higher sanding, a quick wipe again to remove the dust and then the Watco Danish Oil Finish. I don't follow the one AKers recommendation, a couple coats per directions, once a day for a week and then once a week for a month or two and WOW. I stop a few steps before that and am very happy with the results.

Grilles get a nice tub bath with a proper soap, dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent and then dried quickly pressing them in towels.

I would certainly try this method, and see how it works. Acetone is great stuff, dissolves a lot of substances, but never considered it for an oil finish.

So I shouldn't use my walnut restor- a- finish and my 0000 steel wool then after I iron them? I've used it with furniture wood veneer restoration, but you guys are the experts lol

You should use your favorite finishing product. I don't recommend using steel wool though. It can leave steel fibers in the wood grain. This is why I use 600 grit wet-dry sand paper. When using Danish oil, boiled linseed oil, some like to sand with the oil wet, then wipe away any excess oil remaining. Paper towels are good for hand polishing as well.

Haven't had any time although I need to reseal one of them since I had to open it up and tighten up the post. Some advice on the best stuff to reseal the woofer with would be great! Also the screws just spun when I pulled out the woofer so I may need larger screws now lol. So here is why I haven't had time and why I've hurt my back. The city came to put a new telephone pole in our back yard and of course ruined the new grass I planted and left a huge dirt like I raked out and replanted. Well about 2 weeks later we started having water backing up in the house a little bit in the basement where all of my personal equipment is, just a tiny bit not that big a deal. So then it starts to rain....and rain. My basement then has inches of water and rising while I'm scrambling to move everything. Saved everything except the covers on a case of albums, but hurt my back bad enough to be walking with a cane for a week. Had 2 plumbers come out and 1 estimate was insane. Had the other guys to a sewer cleanout and 50 feet from the house it stopped like it was crushed so they said call the city their trucks may have done it when they put in the new pole. I called the city. They had a backhoe in my back yard where my beautiful new grass was, digging a hole I could fit a Volkswagen in. They all took a break to go to a coworkers funeral, so I went to take a peek. They had put the auger and the new telephone pole straight through the center of our sewer system. I now have to go to the utilities board and plead my case that it was their fault. Good you have the pics, as they may have tried to cover it up and weasel out of any responsibility. Take more pics, be well armed.

I would've taken more, but I could barely walk with a cane and was hobbling around in the mud trying not to fall

On the upside I got a great deal on a barely used carpeted rolling rack with a new drawer and good solid front and back panels....but i had to take these with it lol
