Another crossover question

Hello again. I have been looking at the crossover schematics for the kappa series and have noticed that for the kappa 7 they use what I think is a notch filter in the midrange circuit. I don't see anything similar in the rest of the series. I'm sure the engineers at infinity had a reason for this but I was hoping that someone could shed a little more light on this for me. Thanks, Brian

Hi, look up the formulas for 'resonant LC circuit', or words to that effect. Once you can derive the frequency and Q of the circuit, you will have the answer to your question.

G~

Thank you. I have figured out the frequency, which is 805.9, but I am having a harder time getting the Q as well as figuring how many db's it's down at that frequency. The math formulas are really giving me a work out!

They usually do :D

If that is a filter, it's likely there to cancel out a reinforcement at that frequency where two drivers peaks aligned and there was a hump in the output.

Why do you want to bypass it?

Just curious as to why only the 7 had such a filter. I do have a diy kappa 7 center channel and it is some what "chesty" sounding, I believe this might be from having the woofer so close to the floor. I thought bypassing this filter might brighten that area up.

A somewhat tangential question,
but does everyone here (with Kappa 7's) feel certain that the post link is the correct schematic for all Kappa 7's?

I ask this because my midranges are marked model 902-3075
(and not marked as 902-3068 as per that schematic)
see photo attached.

Are there subsequent or earlier versions of the Kappa 7 - different than what's represented by that schematic?
(I'm assuming, of course that the Kappa 7A is a different animal altogether)

I believe all the kappa 7's are the same, aside from the .1 series. I have 6 kappa 7 crossovers and they are all the same component wise. As far as the polydomes go, the 3" are all the same but infinity started putting an expanded metal screen behind the dome in the .1 series.
