Really like my ESS Monitors so I jumped at the chance to Pick up a pair of working ESS transtatic speakers tonight. I was surprised how much larger and heavier they were compared to the ESS monitor. I haven’t had a chance to compare with the monitors but initial listening is very promising. Bass is very good, driving them with Bedini 200 wpc amp. They definitely have a narrow sweet spot. Will update as I get a chance

Wow, that's a nice collection.

You need these for your collection. ESS SuperQuad. ESS superquad is a els57 plus 5 infinity (RTR) electrostatic tweeters in an array in a speaker cabinet that also had a pair of separate subs (KEF B139) in tower cabinets.

Spent some time listening and comparing the ESS collection. The ESS monitors have been completely refurbished with new surrounds and crossover caps. The ESS transtatic are in “as found condition” however all electrostatic panels are working. The monitors are connected to Bedini 200 wpc amp. The transtatic speakers are connected to Adcom 555 200 wpc amp and Adcom preamp. Started with the transtatic speakers my first electrostatic speakers, I can see why folks like the electrostatic drivers. Lots of detail, very open and airy sound. But really impressed with the the bass response from this odd looking KEF driver. Switching to the the ESS monitors my ears prefer (slim margin) the sound of the Heli driver. However the bass on the monitors can’t match the transtatic speakers. The transtatic speakers need quite a bit more power than the monitors.
Tough decisions I know, guess I will have to keep both. I have ordered 6 new old stock rtr electrostatic panels for spares. I should probably redo the transtatic’s crossovers and see if that makes a difference.
So there you go ! If you find one of these odd looking speakers in the wild, drag it home (all 100 lbs of it).
Connect it to a 100 lb amp and your going to love it.

A nice collection of speakers. Those Polks are big. If you like the Heil and the bass of the Transtatic, You could try a pair of these. The AMT 1 Tower. I just got this pair up and running today.
A 10 inch woofer in a quarter wave transmission line. I'll post more about these in another thread.

I have the separate tower cabinets for this SuperQuad monster. Acquired them from a friend of an ESS collector in NorCal. No SuperQuads found, but I plan to use the Towers as low frequency reinforcement with my ESS Transars.

In the meantime, my ESS Transtatic are my daily speakers. Still looking for crossover information on those...
