Another flexi rack joins the ranks

So, I was sick of having my gear haphazardly stacked all over the damn place so I build this;

Pretty unreal how easy it really was. I have no saw guide or table saw so cutting perfectly straight shelves wasn't in the cards. I created a template from .5" mdf that I already had and made it as good as I could get it then used a router with a straight cut bit and a bearing on the end to make copies. Total time invested minus finish drying time is well under 6 hours.

I used 3/4" rod, and birch plywood. The top is two pieces sandwiched together and the bottom piece has 3/4" holes drilled in it so it just sits on top. The nuts/washers are for leveling only.

This thing is a bit more "Flexi" than I would like, but for about $80 bucks or so I sure can't complain. It is 4' tall or so. I cut down 6' rods.

I suck ass at woodworking, so I am pretty stoked about this. I also attached a picture of my $50 expedit I got off of craigslist, which sits to the right.

that does look excellent. nice detail on the front of each shelf. I would still like to attempt a build like this.

Very, very nice job for someone who claims not to be a woodworker! It just shows you how easy some things are once you take the plunge.

I'm guessing that has to do with three legs rather than four, but I do like the looks of the tripod version. Nice work.
 
It would have been a nightmare to level with four legs on the floor that it is sitting on. The entire thing is sloped. That flexi rack has a 2" wide piece of 1/2" plywood under the front edge to level it!!! I think the concrete was poured to keep fluids running to a floor drain which is behind that wall.

Don't get me wrong, the rack really isn't very flexy but its not as stiff as I would like. Next time I buy a sheet of birch ply I will build 2 more shelves which will stiffen it up a lot. There is about a foot between each shelf. I figure if I run out of room Ill move that TT to a wall shelf.

Looks really nice Evan, and I imagine a couple more shelves will stiffen that up even more. The Oracle looks really nice sitting on it's perch, overseeing its domain.

Nothing wrong with your woodworking skills thats for sure.
