Another HOT find (Spica TC-50)

I think I just got another great deal.
I found a pair of Spica TC-50's for $25.00.
In very good condition with the exception of what looks like chewed bubble gum on the bottom of one of the grills and a worn corner on the other grill.
Anyone familiar with these?
They sound GREAT!

I think that's gotta be a deal.
Haven't heard the Spica's, but have heard that they're a good speaker system.
From your comment, I guess they are!

Never heard em either but I think Millerdog has a pair of these.

I remember them. They are little wedge shaped speakers right? They were getting great reviews in some magazines. I listened to them along with some DCMs once, good sound, but not enough bass for me. Great buy for 25.

Nice find

I auditioned a pair of these at home for a while years ago - very nice sounding speakers. Sure, no real bass, but fantastic imaging and midrange performance. I loved these with a little push-pull tube balls (I used a Conrad-Johnson 75w amp at the time), especially with female vocals, guitar, blues and jazz. I never bought them because I wanted rock VOLUME at the time but I'd consider them worth the bucks at 10x what you paid!

Good scoop.

I also heard them against DCMs at a local shop. Acoustic and vocals were awesome. Like everyone else here, a little too thin on bass for me then, but now I'd probably love em;)
I got the cheapest of the line; TR30s I think ($400 new). Still haven't gotten around to refoaming them. A friend had a pair of Triangulus' that rocked also.
I believe enjoythemusic.com has an interview with their designer who's name escapes me at the moment. For $25 you stole them puppies for on Agon, as mentioned they often go for ten times that price. I don't recall where I read it, but I heard that the Spicas were not very efficient; read less than 90db, prolly around 88 or 87db.
Nice score!
If you find out anything else, please post it!

I had a pair for 10 years and finally sold them because I could not find a replacement for the drivers. They are excellent speakers for imaging and transparent midrange. Foe the lacking bass I used a Velodyne HSG-12 to compensate.
I loved these speakers. They were also my first audiophile speakers which exceled many expensive pairs I ever owned... Congrats.

I still have my pair of TC-50s sitting in my basement. I use them as testing speakers for my DIY tube stuff. They still sound great, but after using a pair of DIY speakers that I built for a friend for a few weeks, I had to go back to them while I finished my own pair and they just didn't have any oomph. They also sound rolled off at the top.

The imaging on these things is still unparallelled. It is the one area that they completely blow away anything else. They just disappear into the room.

Because the summer has been so wet here in the northeast, I have a very damp basement that has caused mold to grow on the grill cloth. I think also that the woofer rubber surround is on its last legs so they won't last much longer. I'm surprised they've lasted as long as they have, given they were my only speakers for about 15 years.

I though about selling them on ebay or audiogon as a way to get some cash to invest in another project (DIY tube SET), but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
