G'day all, back to 62 k. Just for an experiment, I trotted out my simple one opamp DIY phono stage configured for 62 k this morning and plugged it in. Whilst that little phono stage isn't quite as refined as my P06's, it is quite a competent phono stage especially after my modifications like an OPA2134 op amp, removal of redundant passive components etc, and it sounds pretty good all up.
Anyway 62 k sounds great with that added upper treble with benefits on instruments like cymbals with their upper treble harmonics etc. I think the added treble exacerbates the effects of record wear though and makes me realise how worn some of my records are! Interestingly enough, even at 62 k the playback still sounds quite musical. Both 47 k and 62 k sound great, so let one's mood decide!
I think that the Shure 'dynamic stabiliser' is really having a very benefical effect here. I think that has been the really big problem all the time. Regards, Felix aka catman.
