Another mystery speaker thread....

Fellow I know has found some mystery speakers, and wants to get an ID. I've been unable to ID them, and was thinking about making him an offer if I can figger out what he has and if they are any good. Here's the picture.....

They kinda look like big Infinity's to me, be I was unable to find any matching pix, plus the woofer doesn't look right.

Frankenspeaker?

Maybe some sort of electrostatic?

I"m wondering if it isn't a DIY built Ribbon Driver on top? Can you access the rear of the top part or unscrew the drivers from the baffle? Strathern made some large ribbons that stacked might have looked like that. Pull the woofer and see if there are any identifying labels or numbers.

The top part looks way too wide for a ribbon enclosure but who knows.

The sub looks to be homemade.

I'm going to guess the year: 1965.
And the place: California.

Around the thin central high-frequency drivers appears to be fabric, not some large E-stat.

Not many made deep open-backed HF driver 'enclosures' in hybrid systems. Infinity did for the 2000A.

That Vifa driver logo looks mid-eighties or later. Way too new, probably a later replacement. Probably nicer than original.

Regarding value: if those HF drivers are single-ended E-stats, like the silver ones in my Realistic 2A's, not so much.

Remember E-stats that old may have odd value xformers...although taking one off a cheap Bug-Zapper has worked...

If those are early Acoustat's?..... are those rollers on the bottom original or was something else attached down there?
